Behind the business
Christopher Anson
Funeral Director
I have been working as a funeral director for the past 15 years. Prior to this, I have also worked in several roles including high school teaching at Waverley College and held a variety of management functions across Sydney. My experience as a funeral director has grown through working for a couple of traditional funeral homes in both Sydney’s east - Walter Carter Funerals - and regional NSW - MH O'Rourke, Queanbeyan
I took the decision to set up my own funeral business to maintain a strong level of personalised service. Most funeral homes such as Walter Carter and WN Bull now aren’t family owned and are controlled by major corporate entities.
I have met many families at times of immense sadness and grief and have been privileged to walk with them along part of their grief journey as we set about planning a fitting service to honour someone who was much loved and special to them. I have strong organising skills and can multi-task with great ease when arranging the complex layers involved with a funeral.
Organising a funeral can take many forms and I’ve been honoured to arrange several State Funerals and funeral services for those who were well known across the community. I feel my strength is assisting families plan services in their local parish church. I have a great rapport with local clergy across many parishes and denominations. I understand the unique and intricate funeral rites and rituals associated with denominations across the Christian and Eastern rite churches.
I strongly encourage families to integrate music and song into funeral planning. Music can be at the very heart of a beautiful funeral. I know a number of wonderful singers and musicians proficient in a wide range of instruments. I also have been known to sing at a funeral so don’t hesitate to ask.
I was born in Sydney and attended school at St Mary’s Cathedral College. Post school I undertook studies in theology and education. I enjoy rugby league and AFL. I love horse racing and have a few shares in racehorses that race in Sydney and country areas.
Please feel free to contact me to discuss all aspects of funeral planning. I have been blessed to work with many families across Sydney, more specifically in Sydney’s eastern and southern suburbs to assist in planning meaningful and wonderful services that reflect either their faith tradition or simply to reflect on a life well lived. Whilst I never impose my own personal beliefs or faith traditions on client families, I feel very comfortable that my own Catholic faith helps me in my care and comfort of others.
The symbol of wheat used in my logo represents the essence of new life. May we all enjoy the comfort and solace of a loving God as His promise of eternal life is revealed to us.
